CNSNews approached Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill and asked her where in the Constitution does congress have the authority to force Americans to buy health insurance. Pelosi responded with disbelief.
Here's the exchange from CNSNews.com:
CNSNews.com: “Madam Speaker, where specifically does the Constitution grant Congress the authority to enact an individual health insurance mandate?”
Pelosi: “Are you serious? Are you serious?”
CNSNews.com: “Yes, yes I am.”
Pelosi then shook her head before taking a question from another reporter. Her press spokesman, Nadeam Elshami, then told CNSNews.com that asking the speaker of the House where the Constitution authorized Congress to mandated that individual Americans buy health insurance as not a "serious question."
Apparently Speaker Pelosi hadn't considered the fact that a law must be constitutional. If she has considered that thought, she obviously doesn't think it serious. She probably views it as a minor detail to be hashed out by lawyers in some back room.
Newsflash to Pelosi and everyone else in Washington: Americans are serious, dead serious, in fact, about this healthcare bill. If you won't take us seriously, then be prepared to pack your bags come 2010.

Homemade Marshmallows
Photo From The Dish On Delight
First you pour 1/2 cup cold water into a bowl or heavy duty mixer. Then sprinkle (3) 1/4 ounce packets of unflavored gelatin (found in the jello aisle). Let this sit about 15-30 minutes.
While that is sitting, place 2 cups sugar, 2/3 cups light corn syrup, 1/4 tsp. salt, and the remaining 1/2 cup cold water in a saucepan. Stir over medium low heat until the sugar dissolves. Add a candy thermometer to the side of the pan. Increase the heat to a boil and DON’T stir!
Let the mixture boil until it reaches 240, about 8 minutes. The middle will start to turn slightly golden.
With a mixer running at slow speed, slowly pour the hot syrup into the gelatin mixture. Be careful, this step is really hot! Gradually increase the speed and beat until the mixture is thick and stiff. It will gradually turn white as well. Keep mixing for a bout 15 minutes. Add 2 teaspoons vanilla and mix for about 30 seconds longer.
Then, pour the mixture into a lined and sprayed baking pan. (Some people don’t do this step, but I think this is easier cleanup) Make sure to smooth the top down, so you don’t have lopsided marshmallows. Let this stand uncovered for about 4 hours.
After 4 hours the marshmallows are ready to cut. Take 1/2 cup potato starch and 1/2 cup powdered sugar and mix in a separate bowl. I found the potato starch at the local supermarket. Some people just like to use the powdered sugar. Sprinkle some of the sugar mixture on a cutting board to prevent sticking. Then, cut into any shapes you desire. Make sure to spray your knife or cookie cutters with no-stick spray. Finally, you roll the cut marshmallows in the remaining sugar mixture!
* There was also a suggestion (for an extra special treat) to mix it in cinnamon and sugar instead of the powdered sugar mixture. Sounds nummy!
I know this sounds yummy.. but a lot of work!? I would rather just buy them at the store.. but if you are bored and have time I guess it would be fun.

Today...
I have to go volunteer at the take2 sale for at least another hour and then pick up my stuff from 4-5:30 so I won't be on the computer much after this note.. we have church at 5-7pm.
UPDATE: I missed church altogether because it took me forever to get all my stuff off the racks that did not sell.. there was tons of clothes left behind by others so it took awhile to go through it all. I took in 7 totes worth and only brought home 2 totes worth! Yippee!! I helped them clean up until 7pm.

Pumpkin Patch Pics
We went to the Williamson's Pumpkin Patch yesterday with our friend, Roxy, and her two kids, Mady and Landon.
Noah really enjoyed watching the chickens and ducks. Joel and Noah both had fun in the corn crib. The hay maze was really fun, too.
It was a beautiful day!

I went to a couple Walgreens and found the jack pot at the last stop! Hair brushes for .25 each and hair things for .33 each! Sticky notes and blank card sets for .25 each! The gum was free after coupons and RR! All the band-aids were free, just paid tax. Several 6-8 pk toothbrushes for .33 each! Crest toothpaste .50 each (after coupons and RR). I went crazy and bought all I could. These will make awesome fillers for the Operation Christmas Child boxes! I am so excited!!!!!
All the stuff in the picture are goodies for the boxes! I spent about $20 for all of it! Can you believe it?!!!
I still need shoe boxes and more boy fillers if anyone can help!

I plan to make 100 boxes this year.. I have never done Operation Christmas Child before and I can't believe I never did! I need to take time and do this! God has called on me!! What a wonderful project! What awesome joy these boxes bring to these beautiful children! I have enough stuff to make 30 boxes at least just need to find the boxes!! Anyone have any shoe boxes lying around and lots of Christmas paper? I have several Christmas paper rolls (..but I will need tons!!) but no boxes.. I used them all and I don't need to buy any new shoes right now. HEHE.
I am so excited to spread the message of JESUS!!

Are Christians Demented? (Aah, NO!!)

Christian people are often angry and surprised when people of the world declare them to be mentally unbalanced. Many of us are concerned that persecution of Christians around the world is on the rise; and that criticism and hostility toward Christians in America continues to increase. Perhaps what is most annoying is the presumptuous way that critical remarks are made about Christians in the media. For example:
Slipped ever so casually into a New York Times profile on Dr. Francis Collins, the new director of the National Institutes of Health, is this stunning and not-so-objective example of reporting:
"First, there is the God issue. Dr. Collins believes in him. Passionately. And he preaches about his belief in churches and a best-selling book. For some presidential appointees, that might not be a problem, but many scientists view such outspoken religious commitment as a sign of mild dementia."
Excuse me. Rewind the tape, please. Did the New York Times just say that people who believe in God and talk about it have dementia?
In an otherwise unremarkable profile, this offhand remark, which is never backed up by anything that could even remotely be considered "evidence," is included as part of a discussion on whether Dr. Collins, who happens to be Christian, could possibly handle the reins of NIH and believe in God at the same time. "

Anger (the righteous kind) at "this sort of ideologically-biased reporting is appropriate. But surprise? Christians who have even superficially read and studied the Bible should never be surprised when the world thinks we are odd. Why?

"If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you."

To the world, we are odd. Get over it. Spend just a few moments reflecting on the secular-progressive world's Weltanschauung (the original German word for worldview), and you will have to agree. From the secular-progressive world's perspective Christians are very odd.

There is no spiritual reality; only physical reality.
There is no afterlife. This life is all there is.
There is no God. Hence, of course, no Jesus. No Salvation. No Heaven. No Hell.
There is no objective good and evil. Good and evil are man made conventions.
There is no absolute moral truth. Morals are relative to time and culture.
Science is the only real source of truth. The Bible is a book of fairy tales and myths, written by deluded, religious fanatics.
Traditional notions of morality (such as marriage being between one man and one woman) are passé and outdated.
What should we do in the face of such biased mentality? I think at least five things:
1) Endeavor to insure that if the world despises us, it is because we follow Jesus, not because we have committed acts that are worthy of censor or punishment.
2) Do not be dismayed about the world’s animosity; but do not cultivate a paranoid expectation of it. Remember that Jesus said, “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves."
– Matthew 10:16 [NASB]3) Study and know what the Bible actually says, not what worldly people want it to say.
4) Study, know, and exert your rights as a citizen (The Apostle Paul did, Acts 21:37-40).
5) Make vigorous use of your 1st Amendment rights to freedom of worship and freedom of speech.
Item one through four above can all be effectively exercised in a solitary fashion. So can item five, but in addition it needs to be exercised through collective action. Obviously many of us are accustomed to exercising our freedom of worship collectively. The Bible commands us to “...let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another...” [Hebrews 10:24-25 (NASB)].
But many of us are unaccustomed to collectively exercising our freedom of speech. Why is that?
There are numerous possible reasons. But, I think the two most likely reasons are the facts that most of us have been reared in a culture that places high value on individual accomplishment and on individualism (self-reliance and personal independence). Also, for most of our lives, and probably for our parents during their lives, collective free speech activity has often been associated with radical (often Marxist), political activity. Hence, collective free speech activity has taken on an unspoken characterization of a less-than-desirable activity. It is here that some of us may need to explore and rethink a vague feeling that could possibly arise from an unexamined, ingrained assumption.
I suggest that you give serious thought to becoming involved with some organization or organizations that provide venues for serious collective expressions of free speech, especially applied in the political, social, and cultural realms.
I would be derelict if I didn't recommend the American Family Association (AFA) for this type of activity...so I do.

this week they are 2/$18 with a $4 Register Reward that prints out.
You can use (2) $2/1 manufacturer coupons (or print some here) to get the total down to $10 after RR and coupons. 2 packs for $10 or $5 each isn't too bad in my book if you need them.
There is also a $1/1 coupon for Huggies diapers/pullups in the Walgreens coloring book (this book is .99 found by most pharmacy dept. or thrown in with the clearance!? Depends on the store I have seen them in a few different spots.) but it would not scan so I let it go. I will try a different store tomorrow.. :)
Then the cost would be 2/$8 or $4 each! That sounds much better!

On top of that.. you can send in your receipts to caregiversmarketplace.com (click for info) and get .75 a package back! I have only done this once. You have to send in at least 5 eligible items or more at a time and before 2009 ends (each year it starts over). Went garage saling again!
Oh, what a day!! A marvelous, treasure-finding day!!!
I found cute kids wrapping paper (Blues Clues, Pooh, Pink Polka dots) on the roll for .25 each!
Lots of nice size 5-6 kids clothes for Joel .50-$1 each! (Mostly name brand sweaters, jeans and tops for church too!)
Step 2 water and sand table for $15
Really nice trike with bucket on the back $10
Bed Pillow .50 (Dean grabbed one, too, since he needed one!)
A couple nice books for .25 each
Like New Soccer cleats for Joel $2
Wooden Puzzles .50 each
Will post some pics once I bring it all in!
It was great fun with Grandpa Dean riding along.. stopped at Wendy's for lunch quick to get Joel a kid's meal and Dean some fries (that is all he wanted!!). I went across the street and grabbed my free QT sandwich.
Then I picked up my craigslist items (Enfamil Next Step) and my dsmreuseit (freecycle type group) things (egg cartons for sister-in-law and hangers for brandie).

What Do You Do All Day?
I'm sure we have all seen this joke a time or two but I just had to post it. This is what I do all day!
A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.
He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel.
She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?' She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?' 'Yes,' was his incredulous reply. She answered, 'Well, today I didn't do it.'

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. Seth is Sick again! My poor baby...
Took Seth to the doctor this morning along with Joel. Doctor said Seth has Croup so they gave him some meds there. Joel has it a little, too, but they only give meds to bigger kids if it is real bad. So he wrote a script just in case. Bad thing is, one of my friend's kids was sick and we attended their youngest son's b-day party at chuckie cheese (I had no idea!)-turns out it is H1N1 so I hope Seth doesn't have it now. She said they all have H1N1 at her house now (that is how it works she said) and the littlest one (just turned 3) started out with a cough and fever just like Seth did. Let's pray the Croup runs it's course with no more mishaps!
